A field guide to function codes

The short codes behind every Ledington panel, how they're organised, and a morning routine you can type in under a minute.

Every function in Ledington has a short code. You type it into the command line, press enter, and the panel opens in your layout. Codes are faster than menus once your fingers know them, and most of them follow patterns you'll recognise from other terminals.

How codes are put together

Codes come in two shapes. Some open a view of the whole market, and some take a symbol first.

  • Market codes stand on their own. TOP opens top news and YC opens the Treasury curve.
  • Security codes follow a ticker. AAPL GP charts Apple and AAPL FA opens its financial statements.

The codes worth learning first

You don't need to memorise the whole list. These cover most of a research day:

CodeOpensGood for
GPPrice chartAny time frame, with volume and comparisons
FAFinancial statementsIncome, balance sheet and cash flow history
FILFilingsEvery filing for a company, newest first
RISKRisk factorsWhat changed in a company's risk section
EQSEquity screenerFiltering the whole US market
YCTreasury yieldsThe curve today against a previous reading
ECOEconomic calendarWhat's being released this week
TOPTop newsCentral banks, regulators and company news

A morning routine in six commands

Here's a routine a rates-focused analyst might run before the open. Each line is one command.

Morning routine
TOP overnight central bank and regulatory news
ECO what's released today
YC the curve against yesterday's close
SOFR funding rates
COT positioning as of the last CFTC report
LAY switch to the trading-day layout

The highlighted line is the one most people keep open all morning. Once the layout is saved, the whole routine becomes a single LAY.

Codes and linked panels

Panels can join one of four colour groups. When they share a group, changing the symbol in one changes it in all of them. Link a watchlist, a chart and a filings panel, and clicking a name in the watchlist moves the other two with it.

This is where codes and layouts work together. You build the screen once, and from then on you're only changing symbols.

Explore the company research functions, and use the Functions menu for the other categories.

Try the terminal before you sign up

The demo runs on simulated data and needs no account, so you can open every panel and build a layout before you talk to anyone.
